Most Central American countries including Mexico, Guatemala, Nicaragua, El Salvador and Costa Rica - and South American countries like Brazil and Equador - have shaped the history of the hammock. It is believed that the origin of the hammocks are about 1000 years ago in Central America to the Mayans. This impressive sophisticated culture created the most accurate calendar (very fortgeschriettene astronomy, mathematics), architectural pyramids, palaces, its own writing system and the net hammock. Very little of this culture could be preserved until today. The net hammock is also still used as an everyday item in Central America.
